Sitting down for a chat with your potential officiant can reveal a lot about his or her style and demeanor. Above all, look for someone who makes you feel comfortable and is respectful of your wishes and individuality. To get the ball rolling, be sure to ask these questions to help you choose an officiant.

1. Are you comfortable working with our denomination or providing a non-religious service?
2. How do you generally run a wedding ceremony?
3. Can you give us some examples of your style of homily/speech?
4. What do you wear to the event?
5. Are you available for our rehearsal?
6. Do you have any suggestions for readings or traditions?
7. Is there a preferred set of vows you like to use? Is it okay to write our own?
8. Do you prefer to attend the reception?
9. Do you offer pre-marital spiritual counseling if we are interested?
10. Do you only perform services in a church/temple, or are other venues okay?
